On Tuesday, 27 October 2015, in a simple and austere ceremony of the meeting of Art and Word, fulfilling the desire of the late Metropolitan of Kissamos and Selinon Eirinaios, founder of the OAC, was the receipt of works by Domenikos Theotokopoulos, to be placed in the Foundation's areas.

These are 11 reconstructed works of Domenikos Theotokopoulos, created for the needs of the film of the Cretan Director Yannis Smaragdis, by the distinguished Greek painters Savvas Georgiadis, Nikos Moschos and Stelios Petroulakis. Three original works of the above artists were also delivered, which they donated to the permanent exhibition in Heraklion Crete for creating the future Museum for El Greco.

After mutual agreement of Heraklion Municipality and Yannis and Eleni Smaragdi, who donated products of their works from the film “EL GRECO” of the permanent exhibition in Bethlehem Gate, on: “EL GRECO-THE RETURN HOME”, and after the intervention of Dr. Konstantinos Zorbas, General Director of the OAC, 14 works were granted for exhibition at the Academy facilities.

The intention of the OAC and Yannis and Eleni Smaragdi is to organize a tribute to Domenikos Theotokopoulos, as well as the three aforementioned artists who are distinguished for their work, both in Greece and abroad. The event will be accompanied by art historians and scholars of Christian and Byzantine Hagiography relative to Domenikos Theotokopoulos.

Mr. Konstantinos Zorbas receiving the works thanked on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan of Kissamos and Selinon Amphilochios, President of the OAC Board, the project sponsors and the Municipality of Heraklion, noting that apart from the fact that the works will be seen by over 4,000 people coming to the OAC for conferences or visitors annually, they will also play and an important educational role. Thus, a new OAC educational program will take place on "Studying our own El Greco”. Students will have the opportunity to see the film of director Yannis Smaragdis and review with special teachers, both the film of the director and the artistic work of the great Cretan painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos.
